Challenges to Missionary Work

A few weeks weeks ago, the missionaries taught the first discussion to a friend of my sixteen year old daughter. Towards the end of the discussion, the missionaries warned her that there she would face challenges in learning the gospel. They stated that everytime they start teaching the gospel to a new investigator, their family, friends, or other forces try to intervene and stop them from hearing the gospel.

The second discussion was taught. The following weekend we had planned to travel to my oldest daughter's home in Wyoming to participate in the baptism of my grandson. My daughter invited her friend along. Her parents agreed and plans were set.

A few days before our departure, my daughter informed me that her friend could not go on the trip, nor could she have any further association with anything to do with the Church. My daughter eventually discovered that her friend's parents came across an anti-LDS website. Apparently, they believed what they found on the website.

How would you handle this situation? How do we assist our friends and neighbors that are challenged by the negative claims found in such websites or within negative literature? My daughter's friend is still interested in the Church. Of course, we must honor her parent's wishes.

I will explain what we have done in my next blog.
